The ParkWatch extension has no servers and no accounts. What it stores stays on your computer.
Everything the extension keeps — your callsign, gridsquare, logged contacts, awards progress and any credentials you enter — lives in your own browser's storage. The extension does not collect, transmit, sell or share your data, and contains no analytics, tracking or advertising of any kind.
This website is a separate thing: like most sites, it uses Google Analytics to count visits. That's described under Website analytics below.
Single purpose
ParkWatch is a spot watcher for amateur radio “on the air” award programs (POTA, WWFF, LLOTA and IOTA). Its single purpose is to show live activity from those programs, flag the references you still need, and help you log the contacts you make. Every permission it asks for exists to serve that purpose.
What the extension handles, and why
- Your POTA sign-in session — the token pota.app already stores in your browser. Used to read your own hunter award progress so ParkWatch can flag parks and states you still need. Sent only to POTA's own servers, and (if you enable the keep-alive option) to Amazon Cognito, the sign-in service POTA itself uses. Never to us.
- Callsign and gridsquare — for distance, bearing, “references near me” and filling in your log. Included in a spot or log entry only when you choose to post or upload one.
- Precise location (only if you allow it) — an optional convenience for setting your gridsquare. Used on your device only.
- Your logged contacts — the logging and award features. Sent to a logbook service (QRZ, Club Log, Wavelog/Cloudlog) only if you set one up, and only to the one you chose.
- Credentials you enter — logbook API keys, an email API key, or your own SMTP password. Stored locally and sent only to the service they belong to. We never see them.
What the extension does not do
- It does not collect or monitor your browsing history or your activity on other websites.
- It contains no analytics, telemetry, fingerprinting or advertising code.
- It does not send your data to ParkWatch, its author, or any third party for their own purposes.
- It does not sell or rent your data — there is nothing to sell, because we never receive it.
- It has no user accounts and no back-end server.
Site access
ParkWatch reads pages on the program sites it supports (pota.app, wwff.co, llota.app) to read your own signed-in session and add its on-page controls. Any further access is requested only when you switch on a feature that needs it — a logbook server, an alert service, or a radio-control address you type in. Decline and that one feature stays off; the rest keeps working.
Website analytics (parkwatch.online)
This website uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages are useful, so the documentation can be improved. It sets cookies and receives standard information about your visit, which may include your IP address, browser and device type, approximate region, the pages you view and where you arrived from. That data is processed by Google — see Google's Privacy Policy.
We only ever see it in aggregate, and it is never combined with anything from the extension — the extension sends us nothing, so there is nothing to combine. You can opt out with Google's browser opt-out add-on, by blocking analytics cookies, or with any tracker blocker. Blocking it has no effect on downloading or using ParkWatch, and the extension itself never contacts Google Analytics.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your extension data lives in your browser, so you're always in control of it. Clear it any time from ParkWatch's Settings, and removing the extension deletes everything it stored. Because the extension never sends us your data, there's nothing for you to ask us to delete.
Limited Use
ParkWatch's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only for the user-facing features described above, is never transferred for advertising or any unrelated purpose, and is not read by humans.
Changes
If ParkWatch's data handling ever changes, this page is updated and the change is announced in the extension's changelog before the new behaviour takes effect.
